The nearby historic market town of Barnard Castle is just five minutes away with its acclaimed antiques area, gift shops, cafes and the impressive Bowes Museum.  Enjoy the dramatic High Force Waterfall and picturesque villages with their friendly pubs.  If you want to explore further afield there are four nearby national parks, including the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.  The cities of York, Newcastle and Carlisle are also within driving distance for a day trip.
